What is Microneedling?
SkinPen® Microneedling helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Skinfuse® increases the opportunity for dynamic results from the microneedling procedure by:

- Delivering targeted skin nutrients to support skin remodeling.
Skinfuse key ingredients include:
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin A
- Copper Peptides
- Vitamin E
- Magnesium
- Zinc
- Ginger Extract
Microneedling is a two step process
STEP 1: In-office Procedure
SkinPen® is intended to deliver thousands of micro-injuries to initiate the body’s wound healing process. The body begins to break down damaged tissue and produce healthy new cells. These cells repair and remodel the injured tissue, producing organized, healthy dermal tissue such as collagen and elastin.
STEP 2: At-Home Topical Support
Optimal microneedling outcomes require proper cell nutrition during the 28 day remodeling process. The Skinfuse® post-microneedling topical protocol is used to deliver nutrients essential to the results, in a concise, easy-to-use daily regimen.

How to Prepare For Microneedling
- Try to avoid exposing the area to sunlight 24 hours before your visit
- If you are taking any retinoids or medications for auto immune disease, stop using them 24 hours prior to your visit
- Those who have taken Accutane (Isotretinoin) within the last 6 months should not have the treatment done
- Your face should be clean. Don’t wear any makeup to the office
- It’s a good idea to apply a numbing gel about an hour before your appointment
What to Do/Expect Post Treatment
- Keep the numbing gel on until the doctor tells you to remove it
- Your skin will be red for a few days after the procedure. It may feel a bit tight and warm to the touch. This is all normal and will subside
- Use only mild topical cleansers, moisturizers and creams (Day 1-3)
- Try to avoid sun exposure and if you must be outside, use sunscreen (Day 1-3)
- Try to avoid any strenuous activity, swimming and exercise (Day 1-3)
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is microneedling used for?
The SkinPen can be an effective treatment for acne scarring as well as various signs of aging including wrinkles, fine lines and stretch marks. It can also help minimize the appearance of burn and wound scars.
Can anyone undergo this procedure?
Yes. The SkinPen procedure is minimally-invasive and can be performed on all skin colors and skin types. It can treat mild, moderate and more severe cases of scarring and age-related skin conditions.
How does the microneedling procedure work?
The SkinPen is gently applied to the target areas and the microneedles penetrate the skin, causing it to begin healing the damaged tissue. As a result new healthy cells are formed, collagen and elastin is created, and your skin is revitalized.
Is microneedling painful?
In most cases we apply a numbing cream prior to performing the microneedling procedure so it should not be painful. We find that most patients are very comfortable during the treatment. And there is typically minimal to no pain following the procedure.
How often should I get microneedling done?
Typically you’ll start off with 4-6 treatments to achieve your desired outcome. Following your treatment, you’ll be administering an at-home topical protocol to nourish your skin and enhance the results of the procedure.
With proper home treatment you can expect results to last anywhere from 6 months to a year, during which time you can discuss follow-up maintenance visits with your doctor.
How quickly will I see results?
Most of our patients notice results within a day or two after the microneedling procedure, but it varies from patient to patient. Following the in-home topical protocol will help speed up the healing process.
MICRONEEDLING: PEN vs ROLLER
There are two instruments used for microneedling: the roller and the pen.
The microneedling roller, also called a “derma roller”, is the original tool, a hand held instrument with a drum that is lined with very thin needles.
It is rolled over the skin in the treated area, creating “micro-wounds” that trigger the healing process.
The microneedling pen, such as the SkinPen that we use during our treatments, is a newer and more advanced instrument, with thin needles on a disposable tip that penetrates the skin vertically, rather than at different angles like the roller.
The pen has become the instrument of choice for microneedling, as it has distinct advantages over the older roller method.
For starters, because the pen inserts the thin needles vertically into the skin rather than at an angle like the roller, it is much more precise and causes much less damage. As such the healing process is much quicker.
Also, the microneedling pen can be used in areas that are difficult to treat with a derma roller, such as around the nose, eyes and upper lip area.
Another advantage is the fact that the derma pen is motorized, and penetrates the skin in a controlled, consistent manner. Compare that to the manual application of the roller and you can see how results can vary based on technique.
Other significant benefits? The disposable tip makes the microneedling pen more sanitary, needle size and penetration depth can be adjusted, and they’re less painful!
So when it comes to the pen vs. the roller, the pen is the clear winner. That’s why we use the SkinPen for all of our microneedling procedures.
