How Does Microneedling with Radio Frequency Work?
Traditional microneedling, also offered at Ageless & Beautiful in San Diego, uses a special handheld device with ultra-fine needles to deliver thousands of tiny wounds, called micro-injuries, as it passes across an area of the skin. These micro-wounds stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process to produce new healthy cells that repair and remodel the injured tissue to produce collagen, elastin, and new skin cells. This healing technique rejuvenates the top layers of your skin, eliminates surface scarring and softens fine lines and wrinkles.
Morpheus8 microneedling treatment adds advanced radio frequency (RF) energy to provide a deeper and more efficacious way to create anti-aging protein building blocks for your skin. During the treatment, the same handheld device that uses micro-needles to penetrate the skin also transfers radio frequency heat energy to heat the tissue in the deepest layers of the skin. This technique causes the tissue to contract (tighten) and further increases the production of collagen restoring the elasticity of the skin faster, making it look smoother, firmer, and younger. In addition, because the M8 device uses sharp needles, it will not pull or tug the skin, making you feel more comfortable during the treatment.
What to Expect?
- Immediately after treatment, most patients will experience erythema (redness) for 1-3 days, however for more aggressive treatments this may last longer. Slight to moderate edema (swelling) and a mild to moderate sunburn sensation are also common post treatment and may last 1-3 days. Skin may crust and peel for 2-7 days, depending on treatment settings.
- Before discharge a topical ointment may be applied to the face, no bandages or wraps are necessary.
- There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently, avoid scrubbing or trauma to the treated area.
- Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation.
- The use of a zinc oxide sun block, SPF 30+ at all times after 24-48 hours, post-treatment.
- Multiple treatments over a period of several months may be required to achieve the desired response.

How Long do Morpheus8 Results Last?
Some patients might see immediate improvements as soon as the treatment is complete because the elastin tightens in the skin from the RF energy. Other patients will see visible results within a few days.
Typically, collagen renewal requires approximately six weeks, after which you will see noticeable results. Improvements to the skins will continue up to three months post-treatment. Morpheus8 results are permanent, and your skin will continue to age from its new point of improvement.
